JOB PURPOSE

Teachers at AIS are innovators and leaders who are passionate about working with students in a multicultural community and always seeking new ways to personalize learning. With an interdisciplinary focus, AIS teachers also integrate innovative learning strategies while working with a diverse student population.

 

This is a full-time position teaching MYP Mathematics to students in Middle and High School and/or DP Mathematics to students in grades 11 and 12 beginning August 1, 2023.

Hours per week: 40 hours (1.0 FTE)

Reports to: Math Group Leader

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Positive contribution to the collaborative culture of the Mathematics and broader Secondary School teams.
  • Construct learning experiences that challenge students, support the diversity of learners in each classroom, and demonstrate a strong commitment to concept-based teaching and learning.
  • Pastoral expectations include the leadership of an advisory group of students in a specified grade level.  This includes enthusiastic participation in an annual week long trip.
  • Ensure assessments support ongoing learning and provide timely, relevant and appropriate feedback to students on formative and summative assessments.
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management that shows an understanding of the academic, social and emotional dimensions of learning.
  • Keep parents informed about the learning of their children, and be proactive in communication with parents.
  • Supervise Personal Projects and/or Extended Essays as part of the International Baccalaureate Programme  
  • Academic responsibilities include enthusiastic participation in Professional Development, both that which is required by AIS and that which is identified by the teacher. 

Ideal candidates will have experience with a range of pedagogical approaches and will be excited by the opportunity to teach a diverse student body in an inquisitive and inquiry-based environment.  The ideal candidate has demonstrated effective equitable and inclusive practices within and outside the classroom.  A passion for working with adolescent learners, flexible attitude, commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of humor are essential. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Master’s degree preferred).
  • The successful candidate should have a passion for education and extensive experience teaching Mathematics. 
  • Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment.  Flexibility of approach and a collaborative style are essential. 
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion, inquiry and experiential based pedagogy is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners. 
  • Experience of teaching IB MYP and/or IBDP is desirable, but good applicants with other curriculum experience are also welcome to apply.
